Addressing Community Needs for Building Capacity to Use Earth Observations for Atmospheric Systems

Session ID#: 124259

Session Description:
Satellite and airborne missions continuously collect information about the Earth’s atmosphere to support informed decisions and policies. Data are openly and freely available, yet there is a gap in uptake by potential users. The capacity building community is supporting the practical application of geospatial data by investing in the growth of individual and institutional knowledge and skill building. Observations of the atmosphere are well established, with a wide range of potential use cases, including, but not limited to, measuring air quality indicators, monitoring wildfires, quantifying greenhouse gas emissions, and modeling atmospheric transport. Individuals, organizations, and networks working in capacity development have generated many novel and successful applications and implementation and evaluation schemes related to atmospheric systems. This session will highlight these contributions and provide a forum to share best practices, new initiatives, and case studies that will guide the capacity building community towards greater adoption of EO of the atmosphere.
