Fostering a Community of Inclusive and Accessible Earth System Science Engagement

Session ID#: 124381

Session Description:
Natural hazards, a changing climate, and environmental degradation from anthropogenic activities disproportionately affect vulnerable populations. These same populations are also likely to be excluded as audiences from scientific communication and engagement efforts. Non-English speakers, low-income populations, and people with disabilities may lack adequate channels to access and contribute to societally relevant scientific efforts. Providing resources and opportunities that are accessible, and created in collaboration with these communities, is thus essential to the societal relevance of Earth sciences.

This session aims to create a network where recommended practices can be shared and partnerships fostered towards creating inclusive resources and outreach events suitable for people historically underrepresented in the Earth sciences. We invite submissions that highlight how resources and programs are developed, run, and disseminated, successful partnerships, ways to reduce barriers in the geosciences, evaluation results, and research-informed best practices.
