Hydromet Programmes Concept: What Do They Teach Us? The Case Of Burkina Faso In West Africa

Session ID#: 124687

Session Description:
Several developing countries are highly vulnerable to a number of climate related hazards.

To support the development of climate-resilient pathways, the countries call for additional financial support to strengthen the scientific base for generating climate and weather information, products and services. This is achieved, first by developing the capacity of national hydro-meteorological and warning services, which will in turn support adaptation planning for public and private sector users. It combines the capacity building and institutional development of the main agencies of the countries, the improvement of their hydro meteorological and early warning infrastructure and enhances the service delivery and warnings to communities by strengthening the “last mile” connectivity.

In this work we assess the results of the implementation in Burkina Faso, of the Africa Hydromet Program, a partnership of development organizations, aiming at understanding how national institutions and communities make use of climate information services for climate and disaster resilience.
