Human Influence on the Regional/Natural Hydroclimate and Environmental Systems

Session ID#: 124707

Session Description:
Continued human influence on terrestrial ecosystems significantly alters human-environment interactions, and associated land-surface processes at regional scales. This session welcomes empirical and model-based studies, as well as novel analysis approaches that can enhance our understanding of interactions between human management and the regional hydroclimate and environment. Particular topics of interest include but are not limited to: Assessment of hydroclimate shifts due to global climate change and local to regional anthropogenic disturbances (e.g. urbanization, deforestation, etc.); Effects of water management and economic activities (e.g., inter-basin transfers, water cooled power plants, irrigation, manufacturing, etc.); Ecological impacts (on water quantity or quality) from human-induced land cover changes and flow alterations; Assessment of urbanization effects (urban heat island, urban water management, interactions with the natural water cycle, etc.) on eco-hydrological processes; and Advances in data synthesis, low-dimensional frameworks, coupled human and natural systems modeling and other innovative methods.
