Aerosols and Air Quality over South and Southeast Asia: Observations, Modeling and Impacts
Aerosols and Air Quality over South and Southeast Asia: Observations, Modeling and Impacts
Session ID#: 157544
Session Description:
The densely populated regions of South and Southeast Asia are subject to persistently high loadings of aerosols and key air pollutants, which lead to poor air quality and impact the regional atmospheric chemistry, climate, public health and agriculture. Dense haze associated with biomass burning, urban and industrial emissions often results in alarming degradation to air quality. Whereas extensive dust emissions combined with carbonaceous aerosols, can potentially affect summer monsoon processes, leading to enhanced vertical pollution transport. We invite presentations discussing observational, modeling and impact studies over South and Southeast Asia; with topics ranging from aerosols and trace gases characterization including aerosol-radiation and chemistry-climate interactions, and public health and agricultural impacts. We also welcome papers discussing effects of COVID-19 on air quality changes in South and Southeast Asia.
