Geophysics for Geothermal Energy
Geophysics for Geothermal Energy
Session ID#: 157975
Session Description:
Geothermal energy is a low-carbon renewable baseload energy source and will play a crucial role in achieving the goal of net zero emissions of global greenhouse gases by the second half of the 21st century. Many states in the U.S. aim to achieve the goal of 100% renewable energy by 2050. Geophysics plays a crucial role in exploration, production, and monitoring of geothermal energy reservoirs. Ongoing projects using geophysical technologies for geothermal energy applications have posed many scientific questions that need answers from both academic and industrial perspectives. We solicit abstracts on geophysical technologies applied to all types (e.g., direct use, hydrothermal, EGS and supercritical geothermal system) of geothermal energy, such as active surface seismic, vertical seismic profiling, distributed acoustic sensing, large-N array, induced seismicity, ambient seismic noise, gravity, magnetotellurics, electrical resistance tomography, and InSAR. We welcome submissions of abstracts on computational, laboratory experimental, and field-scale studies of geophysical technologies for geothermal energy applications.
