Revealing multiscale plasma dynamics and properties of turbulence in three dimensions: Insights from multispacecraft observations from Cluster and MMS to Helioswarm and beyond.

Session ID#: 158585

Session Description:
Turbulence is a multiscale phenomenon spanning a broad range of space and time scales. Single spacecraft measurements are severely hampered by inability to distinguish between spatial and temporal structure and therefore provide only limited information about turbulent cascade and resulting dissipation, while requiring additional assumptions. Modern multispaceraft missions have enabled measurement of turbulence correlations and statistics, such as cascade rates, higher order statistics, anisotropic power spectra, and true space-time correlations without some of these limitations. Sophisticated turbulence techniques and modern data science find fertile common ground in such datasets, both existing and anticipated. This session invites presentations on subjects, both observational and theoretical, that relate to multispacecraft data, including results in turbulence physics, refinement and development of methods, interpretation of data from current missions (Cluster, MMS, THEMIS/ARTEMIS, etc.) and new missions (Helioswarm), as well as mission concepts (Magnetore, etc.)
