A Fault Enhancement Method based on Multidirectional Component Decomposition
A Fault Enhancement Method based on Multidirectional Component Decomposition
Session ID#: 158681
Session Description:
Seismic discontinuity attribute volume can describe the spatial characteristics of faults in general. However, it is easily disturbed by the noise and the detection effect is not very well where the complex fracture locates. Conventional fault enhancenment methods often begin with the fault orientation evaluation for the discontinuity volume, and then enhance the fault signal along the evaluated direction while suppress the signal on the other direction, which mostly rely on the accuracy of the orientation and generate non-negligible deviation on the fault-cross zone. So based on the assumption that the local fault signal approaches the structural characteristic of plane wave, we proposed a new fault enhancement method based on multidirectional component decomposition(MCD). The idea of the MCD method is treating the regional signal as a mixture of multiple plane wave and decompose it into several fixed directional components. With the help of MCD, the multiple faults corssing can be divided into different single fault parts, and it can obviously improve the continuity and sharpness of the fault and finally enhance the fault dectecton ability. Finally, we test the algorithm with the practical data and get an improved fault detection result.
