Green and Blue Justice: Interdisciplinary, Cross-Sector, and Public-Private Environmental Research for an Inclusive Future

Session ID#: 159317

Session Description:
The paradigm for environmental research has shifted to require effective community engagement, interdisciplinary collaborations, cross-sector cooperation, and public-private partnerships to substantially address the harmful impacts of climate change and environmental hazards for the most vulnerable and exposed. Emphasis on environmental justice as a grand challenge requires a multi-pronged research strategy including attention to urban environments, sustainability practices, and nature-based solutions (e.g., urban forests). Leveraging informatics, machine learning and other technology affordances offer researchers additional tools to reduce harm, mitigate impacts, and target resources and action where they are needed most.

In this session, we invite researchers, educators, and students whose work aligns with environmental justice values, engages harmed communities, and is interdisciplinary, cross-sector or public-private to present their work. Research and projects that specifically support an inclusive scientific and environmentally just future are priority.
