Turbulence, magnetic reconnection, and particle energization throughout heliosphere
Turbulence, magnetic reconnection, and particle energization throughout heliosphere
Session ID#: 159323
Session Description:
Turbulence, magnetic reconnection, particle heating and acceleration are interconnected phenomena playing a fundamental role in space plasma as well as in a variety of other astrophysical plasmas. Turbulent dynamics may be responsible for the formation of magnetic structures and current sheets. Reconnection events triggered in current sheets may in turn affect turbulence at small scales. Both reconnection and turbulence lead to plasma heating and particle acceleration. This session invites contributions from observational, numerical, analytical, and laboratory studies elucidating 1) how processes of turbulence, reconnection, and wave-particle interactions are connected to each other throughout the heliosphere and 2) how they are affected by or influence the dynamics of the environment. We encourage contributions addressing these processes in various plasma regimes (such as low and high plasma beta, balanced and imbalanced turbulence cascades, hydrodynamics and kinetic scales, weak and strong plasma turbulence) and in various environments (solar corona, solar wind, earth magnetosphere).
