Achieving Sustainable Food Systems
Achieving Sustainable Food Systems
Session ID#: 159422
Session Description:
Humanity faces the grand challenge of feeding a growing population in a sustainable and healthy manner while contending with ongoing globalization and climate change. Agri-food system actors—including policymakers, corporations, farmers, and consumers— must meet this challenge while considering potentially conflicting priorities such as environmental sustainability, economic viability, nutritional quality, and resilience to climatic/economic shocks. Understanding this growing complexity —which can involve global supply chains and difficult socio-environmental tradeoffs— is essential for achieving sustainable agri-food systems. We welcome submissions covering all aspects of sustainable food systems —including natural resource use, rural livelihoods, human health and nutrition, and climate change— across multiple spatial and temporal scales. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
Trade-offs or synergies between environmental, economic, and social outcomes of food systems;
Meeting future food demand within ‘planetary boundaries’;
The role of food trade in food system sustainability and resilience;
Nutrition- and income-sensitive adaptations to climate change.
