Novel Methods of Vibration Sensing on Fiber-optic Cable
Novel Methods of Vibration Sensing on Fiber-optic Cable
Session ID#: 159652
Session Description:
Recent research detecting large earthquakes using changes in State of Polarization or optical phase on long-haul submarine cables is an exciting development for seismic sensing. These “borrowed” technologies of opportunity and other novel Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensing (DFOS) technologies can supplement and complement traditional seismometers and Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS). The goal of this special session is to bring together researchers from the Optical Transport Networking, Metrology, and Geophysics communities to explore the state-of-the-art and directions for the future.
