Tropical Coasts: Land-Ocean Environments at Low-Latitudes
Tropical Coasts: Land-Ocean Environments at Low-Latitudes
Session ID#: 159826
Session Description:
Land-ocean (coastal) environments afford ecosystem services such as blue carbon storage, food safety, tourism-based economy, maritime trade, and resiliency to communities. In the tropics, coastal systems comprise estuaries-deltas of large rivers that discharge most of the global runoff and massive sediments, nutrients, and pollutants; highly productive muddy landscapes dominated by mangroves; and coastlines fronted by coral and sand-shoal reefs. This high dynamism implies that our understanding of tropical coasts depends on transdisciplinary efforts. With these premises, the Tropical Coasts session invites contributions on the geomorphology, oceanography, and ecology of low latitude coasts, emphasizing the connectivity across environments.
