From Wetlands to Wetlandscapes: Nature-Based Solutions to Society's Grand Challenges

Session ID#: 159833

Session Description:
Wetlands have long been recognized for the wide array of ecosystem services they provide including flood protection, water quality improvements, and carbon sequestration. For these reasons, wetlands are often employed as “nature-based solutions'' as part of a larger portfolio of solutions aimed at tackling society’s grand challenges. This session seeks to bring together scientists from across disciplinary boundaries (i.e., hydrology, biogeochemistry, earth surface processes, and global environmental change) to highlight the latest research on the structure and function of wetlands and wetlandscapes. We encourage submissions across spatial scales from individual wetlands to global synthesis, research approaches  (e.g., empirical studies or process based modeling), and focus (i.e., research, regulatory, and practice). Our aim is to spark discussion that bridges the gap between wetland-scale scientific advancements  and watershed-scale implementation of nature-based solutions in wetlandscapes.
