ALOS-2 Research Synergies

Session ID#: 160265

Session Description:
NASA and JAXA have partnered to advance our understanding of the Earth’s surface and atmosphere from space through the use of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites in the fields of Earth science and Earth observation applications. Since NASA and JAXA have both developed new generation L-band SAR missions, both agencies have recognized the value to share an important experience in operational use of L-band SAR and intend to increase the benefits of synergies in the use of virtual L-SAR constellation with C- and S- band spaceborne assets. Both agencies are jointly collaborating on new and innovative research on surface deformation, sea ice characterization/movement, forest/biomass, wetlands, soil moisture and other climate change study area using spaceborne and airborne SAR. This session seeks new and innovative collaborative research with ALOS-2 imagery, research that compares ALOS-2 imagery with airborne SAR systems (i.e. UAVSAR), or research that increases the synergies of multifrequency analysis.
