Advances in Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry Assessment and Application

Session ID#: 160491

Session Description:
Climate smart (CS) agriculture and forestry are increasingly important integrative management approaches to meeting global demands for sustainable materials by balancing intensification with climate adaptation and mitigation. CS concepts are being incorporated into public policies and resource certification programs like Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and Leading Harvest, indicating increasing essentiality for ecological and business sustainability. This session focuses on the science (e.g., climate, carbon cycling, and modeling), public policy, and social (e.g., business and market demands) interactions that underlie CS approaches. The effectiveness and potential of a CS approach are diminished when production, adaptation, and mitigation are unbalanced. Thus, by bringing together the forestry, agricultural, public policy, and social sciences, we will hold a holistic discussion that integrates the experiences of key stakeholders to advance the CS approach. Contributions may span from experimental to modeling studies, and we strive to feature diverse presenters, including student submissions.
