EP020
Quantifying the drivers of landscape evolution across spatial and temporal scales

Session ID#: 160637

Session Description:
The morphology of river systems is dictated by various processes integrated over a variety of spatio-temporal scales, often competing and superimposed on each other. One way to deconvolve the influence of driving forces of landscape change—including tectonics, climate, lithology, as well as internal dynamics such as drainage capture, among others—is to develop quantitative constraints on the magnitude, rate, and scale of surface change. Quantifying how these processes shape landforms is crucial for modeling past and future landscapes. This session welcomes contributions using a wide variety of interdisciplinary approaches from physical experiments, field work, numerical modeling, geochronology, and remote sensing analyses, with a focus on constraining landscape change from global- to grain-scale. We look to build and foster a diverse, community-wide effort to understand what dictates the underlying driving forces of landscape evolution through time and space.
