Thermal, Chemical and Elastic Properties of Minerals and Metal Alloys with Applications to the Dynamo of Terrestrial-Type Bodies
Session ID#: 161432
Session Description:
Understanding the formation, internal structure, dynamics, and evolution of terrestrial-type bodies requires knowledge of relevant materials at high pressures and high temperatures, including their structural states and their elastic properties. In addition, constraining the thermal properties and heat flow in the interior structure is critical for elucidating the nature of dynamo action in terrestrial-type cores. The aim of this session is to bring together experimentalists and theoreticians whose research constrains core and mantle composition, thermal and chemical evolution, and phase relations of minerals and metal alloys of terrestrial-type bodies for applications to the origin of their magnetic field through dynamo action.
