Advances in Operational Oceanography: Modeling, Product Services, and Skill Assessment III Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 11514
Session Description:
Real-time marine forecasting products based on numerical ocean models have being widely used by a variety of applications ranging from guiding maritime transportation, planning recreational activities, and supporting hazard and emergency responses. Advances in observation technology, modeling and assimilation capabilities, probabilistic techniques, and visualization tools have made marine forecasts more reliable, dissemination more timely, and products more user friendly. This session will provide a forum for real-time applications of ocean forecasting based on hydrodynamic, ecological, and/or integrated land-air-ocean-wave coupled modeling systems. Abstracts from the following key areas are encouraged: (1) real-time maritime applications and products employing new techniques; (2) tools and metrics for forecast performance; (3) probabilistic forecasts for observation network and decision risk assessment; (4) advances in product visualization; (5) challenges in maintaining and improving real-time systems; (6) transitioning research to operations. This session will promote discussions on research requirements to meet the operational needs of real-time ocean forecasting and product improvements.
