Recent breakthroughs in air-sea CO2 exchange

Session ID#: 84517

Session Description:
Understanding the air-sea exchange of carbon dioxide (CO2) is critical to achieving a robust quantification of the ocean carbon sink and its controlling mechanisms, spatial and temporal variability, and vulnerability in a changing climate.  Over the past decade, major field campaigns in chronically under-observed regions, breakthroughs in autonomous platforms and sensors, and innovations in numerical modeling and data analysis techniques have significantly advanced our understanding of the processes and rates of ocean carbon uptake.  This session invites contributions that present recent and ongoing work on all aspects of ocean physics, chemistry, and biology that influence the air-sea exchange of CO2, including observations, technological developments, as well as theoretical and modeling efforts.
