Session Abstract

Abstract: A historic context statement (HCS) identifies important themes in the history of the built environment, establishes periods of historical significance for each theme, and identifies significant property types. It is intended as an important element in preservation planning. A joint project of the San Francisco Latino Historical Society, San Francisco Heritage, and the San Francisco Historic Preservation Fund Committee, Nuestra Historia, the HCS for Latina/Latino San Francisco, has been in development since 2014 and has now been submitted to the city's Planning Department and Historic Preservation Commission. This roundtable will discuss the origin, goals, organization, and process of development for the HCS, including the role of historians and community members.
