Session Abstract
What has solidarity with and among colonized peoples looked like between the late nineteenth and twenty-first centuries? This roundtable takes on this question by exploring alliances that have formed in challenging the United States’ vast Caribbean and Pacific empire. It offers a cross-regional perspective on such anticolonial alliances, emphasizing the cases of Puerto Rico, Guahan (Guam), Micronesia, and Sāmoa. In bringing together scholars who research these areas, this roundtable will consider the types of alliances that have emerged across intersectional identities, between colonies and their diasporic communities, and between colonial subjects and their allies in the United States and internationally. It will also compare the theories and strategies that have facilitated or fractured efforts to contest US militarization and economic exploitation.
