Session Abstract

Evaluating scholarship in the context of tenure and promotion used to be a fairly straight-forward process. Candidates would send physical copies of their book(s), articles, and book chapters to their internal and external reviewers for evaluation. The expansion of the discipline has meant not only work in digital and public history spaces (which do not always have physical components) but also work outside of traditional tenure-track positions that require the preparation of service and teaching work for evaluation. It is also not always clear what kind of scholarly labor went into the creation of these types of intellectual endeavors. This panel addresses considerations of digital presentation and evaluation for historians presenting their work to public audiences and career referees alike. Our roundtable will present approaches to, and guidelines for, crafting both digital and paper dossiers that address tenure and atenure cases at a variety of different institution types.
