| 10D08 Fuel Cell Modeling | ||||||||
| Overview | High performance computing and advanced numerical algorithms are allowing researchers to model fuel cells systems as well as individual components with greater fidelity than ever before. Mechanistic models based on fundamental physics and chemistry significantly reduce the need for empiricism and allow models to be used at all stages of design: from conceptual process design to model based optimization and control. However, empiricism and experimentation have to be judiciously combined with modeling to ensure models are validated and used only within their range of validity. Proper combination of empiricism and modeling can potentially allow rapid prototyping, shortening of design cycles, and rigorous examination of design alternatives, which are all critical to the commercial success of fuel cell technology. We invite presentations that discuss applications of mechanistic models to fuel cell system and component design for the integration of design, operations, and control. | |||||||
