Functionalized nanoparticles and biodegradable polymer particles are used in a wide variety for biological application like biosensors and drug delivery application. Nanoparticles in drug delivery are gaining widespread interest due to their nanoscale size. Nanoparticles can also be loaded with drugs while formation of particles and/or prefabricated particles can be functionalized using various surface treatment for anchoring site-specific molecules for target. This paper presents a novel fabrication technique where we can fabricate a wide size-range of poly-lactic acid particles that can be loaded with drugs or other relevant biomolecules. We employ a high shear rate nanomixer from PRIMIX, Japan, which imparts high shear force that can be either used to disperse prefabricated nanoparticles, as well as can be used for fabricating nanoparticles by precipitation. We are also functionalizing the surface of fabricated particles for anchoring of other important biomolecules. The particles were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, zeta potential analyzer, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
