Developing a comprehensive, integrated system to assess chemical engineering program outcomes can be a difficult and time consuming process. Maintaining and continuing the assessment system, once it has been developed, can also be problematic. This paper describes the continuing curriculum and course assessment system currently used by the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at Ohio University. This system consists of a set of individual course-level assessments which integrate together to constitute the backbone of a program assessment. Senior exit interviews and periodic surveys of recent graduates and alumni round out the assessment portfolio. Annual evaluations of the report set by a faculty Committee-of-the-Whole identifies both program successes and challenges and serves to focus the program on continuous improvement. The annual summary report, as well as the individual course assessment reports, are available to the faculty and selected constituencies (departmental Board of Advisors) on a secure web page. The accumulated annual summary reports and individual course reports provide the basis for the program self-study required for accreditation.
