The electrochemical durability of nanostructured graphitic carbon as a catalyst support is compared with that of carbon black. Comparisons are made using potentiostatic(0.9V and Ar purged 0.5M H2SO4) and cyclovoltametric(-0.21V – 0.8V, Ar purged 0.5M H2SO4) techniques on the respective specimens. The results indicate that the graphitized carbon is more stable than carbon black, with a 70% lower corrosion current. Graphitic carbon has a substantially lower corrosion current and exhibits a greater retention of catalytic surface area.
