Abstract

Herein, we report the synthesis of new nanoparticle photocatalysts based on boron, aluminum, gallium and indium (B, Al, Ga, and In) doped titanium dioxide by a modified aero-gel procedure. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV- Vis Diffuse Reflectance and BET surface area measurements. The photocatalytic activity of the synthesized catalysts was examined for the photodegradation of acetaldehyde, trichloroethylene (TCE), and carbon monoxide under UV light irradiation. The empirical results revealed an exciting prospect of gallium and indium doped TiO2 photocatalysts as good candidates for effective and efficient environmental remediation, compared to Degussa P25
