The most widely used approach to modeling multiphase flow calculation of interfacial area concentration is the population balance approach. This technique requires probabilistic source term modeling. A competing approach is a dertiministic source term modeling approach that nonetheless requires approximations embedded in the source term. Yarbro and Long (2002)illustrated this approach and further work was shown by Aliedeh and Long (2004). The present work shows some of the new approximations used to obtain improvements in the deterministic source term approach. Al Jarrah and Long (2006) showed that a modified two fluid friction factor constitutive equation could entirely eliminate adjustable parameters from the two fluid approach in some cases and lead to a completely deterministic interfacial area concentration distribution and phase fraction distribution using two fluid models.
