Smart Plant concepts have been under discussion and development for some time. Full application of the Smart Plant approach implies robust design processes, use of advanced measurement and Automation technologies, capture and application of knowledge using various forms of modeling, and a disciplined approach to plant Operations. The Smart Plant is also fully integrated within corporate networks and Information Systems. Smart Plants achieve safe, reliable, and highly productive operations. In Dow, there are some excellent examples of effective application of Smart Plant best practices. At the same time, there continue to be many opportunities for further development of enablers and the processes to routinely achieve additional benefits. Collaboration across industry and with the broader technical and standards communities is important to continued progress.
