In this work, we present the results of diamond nucleation and growth experiments on carbon nanopipettes (CNP). Selective diamond nucleation and growth of up to about 1µm diameter crystals were observed on the tips of carbon nanopipettes. Also several pretreatment methods—electrophoretic seeding and ultra-sonication in diamond solution—for diamond nucleation were tried and distinguishing results were observed. Electrochemical experimentation showed that the diamond-tipped CNP arrays can be used as ultra-sensitive and ultra-fast nanoelectrodes for neurotransmitter detection.
