The populational growth and the energy crisis have caused serious problems to the world environment and the sustainable development. The refrigeration for compression of vapor operated with electric power faces the challenge that the chlorofluorocarbons and the hydro chlorofluorocarbons do not favor the sustainable development. Natural refrigerants as water, ammonia, methanol, etc., they will be wellcome in the future of the industry of the refrigeration and the conditioned air. However the good use of this energy should make sure. In this investigation the acting of sulfurized activated carbon was evaluated in the refrigeration cycle for adsorption. The carried out methodology was the following. Starting from the bamboo species Bambusa vulgaris striata, the sulfurized activated carbon was elaborated and characterized. The operation of a refrigeration prototype for adsorption was conditioned and stabilized, a design of experiments bifactorial was applied to evaluate the effect of three activated carbons: a commercial activated carbon, a sulfurized activated carbon prepared starting from the commercial activated carbon, a sulfurized activated carbon starting from bamboo and the effect of two adsorbats: ethanol and methanol. The studied answer variables were temperature in the evaporator, regeneration temperature, adsorbed percentage, percentage desorbed and yield coefficient (Cop). The obtained results were: in the elaboration of sulfurized activated carbon starting from bamboo the following yields obtained in the carbonization 25.6%, in the activation 73.55% and in the sulfurization 79.5%. The refrigeration prototype was conditioned and stabilized the recurrent operation. The results of the statistical analysis of the data for the temperature in the evaporator, the significant factors were the adsorbent and the adsorbat, for the percentage of adsorption the only significant factor is the adsorbat, for the desorption percentage the only significant factor was the adsorbent, for the regeneration temperature the only significant factor was the adsorbat, for the yield coefficient the significant factors were the adsorbent and the interaction adsorbent-adsorbat. For the characterization of the microporosity was applied the equation of Dubinin-Raushkevich and the equation of Dubinin-Astakhov obtaining the best adjustment in 0.9569 for the couple of sulfurized activated carbon, lowest adjustment presented the even sulfurized activated carbon and methanol with 0.8. For the characterization of the microporosity using the equation of Dubinin-Astakhov the best yield was obtained for the system of sulfurized activated carbon and methanol with 0.9559 and the lowest adjustment was for the couple of commercial activated carbon ethanol 0.829. With the obtained results it is concluded: the sulfurized activated carbon increases the value of the Cop= 0.34 of the refrigeration prototype as the best value when it uses methanol as adsorbat.
