Ionic Separation In Nanofluidic Channels

Xiangchun Xuan, Mechanical Engineering, Clemson University, 239 Fluor Daniel Engineering Innovation Building, Clemson, SC 29634-0921

This article presents a theoretical study of the efficiency, selectivity and resolution of ionic separation in nanofluidic channels. The separation of ionic and neutral solutes can be implemented in both pressure-driven and electric field-driven nanochannel flows. Such separation is attributed to the strong electrostatic interactions between ionic solutes and inherently charged channel walls.
