Autothermal reforming of propane for hydrogen was performed over Ni catalysts supported on a variety of perovskites. Perovskites have ABO3 structure and are well known by their thermal stabilities and oxygen storage capacities, but their own catalytic activities have been reported low. Perovskites were prepared by citric acid method. The A site was assigned to La while the B site was assigned to Al, Fe, Co and Ni. CO chemisorption, XRD, TPR and TGA methods were used to characterize the Ni(15wt. %)/LaBO3(B=Al, Fe, Co, Ni) catalysts. The dispersion of Ni of Ni(15wt. %)/LaBO3 were 0.93, 0.21, 0.23, and 0.014% when the B was Al, Fe, Co, and Ni, respectively. The catalyst prepared by deposition-precipitation method showed highest activity, presumably due to its smallest NiO cluster size. The addition of cerium increased the catalytic activities and reduced the amount carbon coking. According to the TPR profiles, consumption and recovery of lattice oxygen in Ni(15wt. %)-Ce(5wt. %)/LaAlO3 seem to be occurred during the reaction.
