This talk presents an effective approach to simulate physics-based lithium-ion battery models in real-time (milli-seconds) for simulation and control in hybrid environments.Rigorous numerical simulation of battery models involves solving model equations in two different length scales (solid phase diffusion in the micro scale and solid phase potential, electrolyte phase potential, electrolyte concentration variations in the macro scale. An innovative approach based on the combination of perturbation, order-reduction techniques and other mathematical methods is used to facilitate real-time simulation of battery models. Applications including optimization, control etc. of the real-time physics based models will also be discussed.
