This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of nanocrystalline thin films of proton conducting perovskite oxide Sr(Ce0.8Zr0.1)Y0.1O2.95 (SCZY) thin films and their chemical and physical properties. The SCZY thin films have been coated on various substrates including Si wafers, sapphire chips, and micro-sized optical fibers. The H2 sorption uptake, electrical conductivity, and optical response to H2 containing gases have been experimentally measured as a function of temperature. The potential utilization of the SCZY nanofilms as high temperature H2 separation membranes and optical probes for H2 in fuel gases are dicussed.
