Lignocellulosic biomass is the most abundant, least expensive renewable natural biological resource for the production of bioenergy, biofuels and biobased products. At DSM, Scientists and Engineers work closely together to create the most sustainable and cost effective processes for the hydrolysis and fermentation of Lignocellulosic Biomass. In this poster we will present DSM's approach in evaluating and designing effective feedstock-pretreatment-enzyme combinations. This approach employs advanced design methodologies and modeling tools. Product cost price models and Life Cycle Assesments are an integrated part of this approach. Design parameters are obtained via extensive process modeling, from detailed reaction kinetics to full scale heat & mass balances, and pilot experiments within R&D programs and partnerships with technology providers.
