Cyclodextrins (CDs) are non-toxic cyclic oligosaccharides that have been extensively investigated and used as bio- and eco-friendly ingredients for food and cosmetics. Here, we report the synthesis of CD-stabilized gold nanoparticles via the thermal nucleation of gold salt in self-assembled CD, which serves as the nanoconfined solid template. TEM images and UV-Vis spectra provide evidence of CD modified gold nanoparticle formation below 10 nm. XRD, SEM, EDX, 13C CP/MAS solid NMR, and ICP-AES are used to explore the CD self-assembled structure with Au salt and the mechanism of gold nanoparticle formation. In addition, environmental parameters influencing nanoparticle formation and stability, as well as their assembly will be discussed.
