Deterrents are utilized to modify and control the ballistic properties of energetic grains in conjunction with coating processes. The ballistic properties of energetic grains depend on the diffusion of the deterrent into the grains during the coating process. A mathematical model of the diffusion process was developed and validated using two separate experimental methods involving thermo gravimetric analysis and fluorescence on stimulants. The diffusion models are further integrated into ballistic modeling software to allow the solution of the inverse problem of determining what the optimum deterrent concentration distribution is to be for a targeted application.
