Electrospinning technique has been applied to prepare metal oxide-metal composite nanofibers. Scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy were employed to characterize the morphologies of the nanofibers. X-ray diffraction and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were performed to investigate the crystal structure and compositions of the final product. The as-prepared metal oxide-metal composite nanofibers were then applied to modify the glassy carbon electrode to construct a non-enzymatic sensor for glucose detection in alkaline solution and a synergistic effect was achieved between the metal oxide and metal. Higher sensitivity, lower detection limit and wider linear range in glucose detection were achieved compared to pure metal oxide or metal modified electrodes.
