Efficient detection of food-borne pathogenic bacteria is very important to reduce danger of severe communicable diseases. Thus, there have been many trials to exploit fast, reliable, and sensitive detection and diagnosis system. We have also developed the oligonucleotide microarray system for 11 pathogenic bacteria including Salmonella species based on the detection principle of 16S rRNA information. It was quite powerful but we found some difficulty in distinguish very closed bacterial species such as Salmonella enterica serotypes Enteritidis, Choleraesuis, and Typhimurium. Salmonellosis should be prevented because Salmonella is one of frequently spread notorious communicable pathogens. In the current work, we developed a new microarray system to distinguish Salmonella enterica serotypes.
