In the computations, one-dimensional heat transfer model and the Arrhenius type kinetic equations are incorporated to construct the robust framework for predicting the surface recession profile of the cylinder wall. An experiment was conducted to measure in surface temperatures and internal pressure of a commercial composite cylinder that was exposed to engulfing fire. The cylinder used in the experiment is a Type ¥² NGV composite cylinder which was manufactured with epoxy/carbon fiber by the hoop and helical winding methods. The cylinder liner is made of aluminum alloy, and glass bulb type TPRD is built in the cylinder valve. An engulfing fire test was conducted with kerosene on a NGV composite cylinder. Surface recession depth profiles were calculated using surface temperature data obtained from the experimental results, and they were compared with the time dependent pressure change.
