Water Challenges in the Global Manufacturing Industry – Leveraging Israel Agriculture Innovations

Gilli Fortuna, Head of the center for Industrial Excellence Samuel Neaman Institute for national policy research, Technion, Haifa, Israel

In memory of Professor Reuel Shinnar

The growth of several global manufacturing industries is limited by water resources and by the ability to handle effectively the wastewater produced. We have selected to pinpoint few of these industries with the purpose of enhancing new innovative solutions. Following the water route in the different industrial sectors, we try to identify the major limitations and implications on the sector. We focused on water feed, water saving, reuse, recycle and regulated emissions. Once these needs are clearly highlighted, we challenge the Israeli water companies to leverage their well-recognized successes in the agricultural world to new innovation. This process is ongoing and we believe that global cooperation is needed for effective solutions.

We will present the method of analysis and show some of the challenges and Israeli water companies' new innovative solutions. In addition, we highlight the need of international collaboration on the issues of industrial water solutions in order to overcome the existing challenges today, and promote both the industrial sectors and the water technology industry.
