Synthesis and Electrochemical Characterization of the Pmnb Polymorph of Li2MnSiO4

Kameron Conforti, University of Delaware, Newark, DE

The Pmnb polymorph of Li2MnSiO4 was successfully synthesized via an adipic acid assisted Sol-Gel procedure. The structure and purity were investigated by powder x-ray diffraction (pXRD). The material exhibited an initial discharge capacity of 130 mAh/g, and retained greater than 100 mAh/g for ten cycles, demonstrating that this polymorph can be cycled. Coulombic efficiency of 90% is achieved after 7 cycles. Further investigation will include the structural stability of the Pmnb polymorph upon cycling.
