Advanced Gasification Concepts

Description:
Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) is an efficient technology for meeting the growing demand for power using fossil fuel resources, with lower CO2 emissions and making the capture process cheaper than that of a conventional pulverized coal plant. The centerpiece of an IGCC system is the gasifier, which converts coal or other carbonaceous materials such as biomass into syngas, a mixture of CO and H2. The syngas can be used for the production of liquid fuels and chemicals or for power generation. Advanced gasification technologies need to be developed to reduce the cost of electricity, while increasing power plant availability and efficiency, and maintaining the highest environmental standards. In this session, we welcome presentations that focus on advanced gasification technologies, especially presentations that discuss how computations and experiments are integrated to accelerate the development of gasification technology.
