As the most common type of harsh environment sensors, high temperature gas sensors are paramountly important to improve combustion efficiency and control emissions. Perovskite metal oxide (LSMO), CeO2 and Pt doped CeO2 nanofibers were fabricated by electrospinning technique and subsequent calcination process. These nanomaterials were characterized by SEM, TEM and XRD. Metal oxide nanofibers-based gas sensors were operating at 800 -1000 oC to real-time and in-situ detect different gases, including O2, CO, hydrocarbons and NOx, which show good sensitivity, full recovery, fast response and excellent reproducibility. Various approaches are employed to improve the selectivity of these high temperature gas sensors, including impedancemetric technique and p-n junction based gas sensor. All these studies show promising results, suggesting that combined with advanced sensing approaches, electrospun metal oxide nanofibers are promising nanomaterials for gas detection in harsh environment.
