Orange peel was utilized as the raw material for activated carbon-based electrodes in Li-ion capacitors. The carbon samples weres synthesized
using a chemical activation process followed by a surface modification method. The surface modification method showed no significant effect on the specific surface area, however it changed the surface property of the carbon samples. Experimental results demonstrated that the electrochemical characteristics of un-treated activated carbons had a better specific capacitance compared with those obtained by surface modification method. Based on our results, orange peel waste can potentially be used as a cheap raw material for the mass production of activated carbons as electrodes in Li-ion capacitors.
