346190 Invited: Peptide Amphiphiles: Modular Construction Of Biomaterials

Tuesday, November 5, 2013: 12:30 PM
Continental 3 (Hilton)
Matthew Tirrell, Institute for Molecular Engineering, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL

Peptide amphiphiles combine the functionality of of peptides and proteins
with the ability create synthetic, modular bioactive materials. These
engineered molecules can be designed to have self-assembly characteristics
driven by either hydrophobic interactions or electrostatic complexation.
Examples will be given of tissue engineering matrices as well as
self-assembled structures with activities ranging from tumor targeting to
atherosclerotic plaque identification to immuno-modulation.
