Design of Novel Chromophores in Non-Linear Optics

A carefully matched combination of donors, acceptors and linkers is key to the designing of effective NLO chromophores. The lower the ionization potential, the more effective the donor. A pi-conjugated system that links the donor to the acceptor is ideal for non-linear optical dyes with large dipole moments. An acceptor with high electron affinity is similarly preferred. The following is an example of a novel donor, linker and an acceptor combination.
