350063 Phase Separation Behavior in Monodisperse Diblock Copolymers

Michael Essien, Chemical Engineering, Stanford University, Stanford, CA

The behavior of monodisperse diblock copolymers is essential to recognize since it can set a baseline to explain the properties of other copolymers such as polydisperse copolymers. In monodisperse diblock copolymers, transitions between the ordered phase and disordered phase occur across a thermal threshold. We show that the order-disorder transition in our model is consistent with the literature expectations, and that finite compressibility does not drastically affect the spinodal point or the order-disorder transition. These copolymers can be used as membranes in fuel cells as the behaviors of the structures are studied more deeply.
